Welcome to the Optimus Algarve car rental Portal. Here, we aim to guide you on what to look for when renting a vehicle for your holiday or business trip.

When searching for the best value rental, bear in mind the following;
1. Always opt for a full-to-full fuel policy. Avoid 'buying' the full tank and returning it empty, as it will never be totally empty, and you will have paid for fuel you haven't used.
2. Be aware that some companies will not accept your 'additional' insurance purchased online, including Discover Cars policies. Car rental firms often prefer to sell their own insurance and will still 'ring fence' up to €1200 on your credit card as extra protection unless you opt for their own policy. You can add filters on the Discover Cars site to reduce the amount of ring-fenced sums.
3. Unless you have purchased local company extra insurance directly with them, you need to thoroughly check the car for any damage before accepting the car and ensure that any marks/damage are recorded when returning it, or you risk being charged.
4. Also, check the opening times for pick-up and drop-off. Be aware that some companies will charge an extra fee for early or late drop-off; check their conditions carefully to avoid surprises. For example, some local firms charge an additional €20 if you drop off your car at the airport before 8am.
5. We list some companies lower on our recommendation list. If in doubt, email us.
6. Remember, you will need a 'credit' card, as most companies do not accept debit cards or cash if they require 'ring-fencing'.
